ADAM MASKELL: Guest Jazz/Musical Theatre teacher
PROFILE ON STAFF MEMBER ADAM MASKELL
(ADAM IS CURRENTLY APPEARING AS ‘THE ANGEL’ WITH MATTHE BOURNE’S CINDERELLA AT SADLERS WELLS AND ON TOUR)
Q: How does it feel to be a dancer with Matthew Bourne’s company?
A: I’m very proud to be a dancer with New Adventures, It’s such a great company to be part of!
Matthew’s work is so interesting, choreographically and dramatically.
We are lucky enough to perform to full theatre’s wherever we go, which is very rare for a dance company.
Q: What is it like to be performing as ‘The Angel’ – your first principal role?
A: I love it…… I get the biggest cheer!!!
Q: Whom/what inspires you as a dancer/choreographer?
A: So many things in my life and people I work for/with. It can be something very random or simple that just comes into my head!
Q: What made you start dancing and why?
A: I did a musical at school when I was 11, so I started doing Musical Theatre classes and quickly realised I enjoyed the dance side of things much more.
Dancing was great growing up as I gained a lot of strength physically and also developed concentration & mental speed, which also helped me with all of the sports I played!!
Q: What advice would you give to a student wishing to become a professional dancer?
A: Practice hard and don’t restrict yourself to one dance discipline. A dancer needs to be versatile and cope with all styles of dance and also be able to sing and act.
